Toyota Introduces the New GR Supra with Manual Transmission
The company has listened to sports
car lovers by providing this new option, as well as a new Lightweight version.
Toyota's first worldwide Gazoo
Racing vehicle, the GR Supra, was released in 2019. Despite some criticism for
its BMW underpinnings, the vehicle has been popular among those who have driven
it. Many people have wished for a unique, lightweight variant with a manual
transmission. Toyota appears to have responded to such requests by announcing
the arrival of a manual version to please what the firm refers to as "the
driving purists."
Saving the Manual Transmission of a
Sports Car
Toyota claims to have listened to
sports car enthusiasts and consumers who pleaded for the manual to be saved.
Manual automobiles are becoming more scarce than we could have expected. A new
transmission and clutch are at the core of the new manual Supra, designed to
match the power and torque characteristics of the GR Supra 3.0-liter engine.
The Supra will now be available with a six-speed intelligent manual gearbox, or IMT, and will be available in Europe soon. Not only that, but Toyota is
expanding the lineup with a 3.0-liter lightweight variant.
Supra Transmission Housing
Modification
Toyota's technical team was able to
adapt Supra existing gearbox casing, as well as the driveshaft and gear
set, as well as remove pieces that were simply unnecessary. This included the
acoustic package, which saved even more weight. The new clutch features a
bigger diameter, strengthened diaphragm spring, increased friction surface, and
a powerful spring. All of this was done to ensure that it is compatible with
the GR Supra high-torque engine, which is a trademark of the car. This new
manual gearbox fills a good void in the Supra lineup.
Supra New Lightweight
Toyota has not slept on its laurels
by not offering a manual gearbox option to Supra owners. They have added the
new Lightweight model to the Toyota portfolio, which has the 3.0-liter engine
once again. Toyota has gone even farther with weight-saving measures on this
model, achieving a total weight reduction of 38.3 kg when compared to the curb
weight of the present automatic transmission. Toyota will also expand the color
palette with the inclusion of Moareki Grey and Dawn Blue. In addition, Matte
Moonstone White makes its Supra debut and looks fantastic in some of Toyota's
publicity releases.
